Expectations

The sponsors have the right to expect that only fully motivated and ideally suited applicants take part in the AP4D's extensive and high-quality training programs. In this way we can ensure that the graduates can later make a significant contribution to nature and wildlife protection.

Own funds

If people, communities, organizations or conservancies request AP4D for training programs, the extent to which their own funds can be contributed to the courses will first be discussed. If the funds are not sufficient, the AP4D can ask its associated international donors and fundraising organizations for support.

Equipment

If available, trainees can bring their own equipment and uniform. - If not available or partially unavailable, AP4D can provide uniforms and equipment for the duration of the course through the training institution associated with us.

Recruitment ​

AP4D offers support in the selection of recruits. Otherwise, the wildlife conservation organizations recognized by AP4D must ensure that only those employees who meet the our requirements to take part in AP4D courses.

Regarding courses for government agencies, such as police and governmental nature conservation officers, we leave it to the relevant superiors to select the course participants.

General requirements for participation

Our participation requirements are determined depending on the type of course and are sufficiently discussed with the partner organization. In general, the necessary requirements are:

- English and/or Afrikaans literacy: speak / read / write

- Sufficient physical fitness (depends on the type of course)

- Social competency

- Love for nature and wildlife

- Seriousness, integrity and good reputation 

- For practical wildlife protection work:

General willingness to accept the physical and mental challenges, as well as potential dangers in wildlife protection

​The applicant or its employing organisation must ensure that he/she does not participate in the course without meeting all requirements.

Fitness test

A fitness test is mandatory for all WP Protection Scout / Officer courses before being accpted on the course. The participants will be informed about the requirements in good time.

​

In case of doubt, the fitness test is also used to select the final course participants. - We advise all participants to ensure early on that they are physically fit  - by private fitness training prior to the test.
